ITS HERE……..
Monday morning I check out of my hotel and head over to Sydney TAFE. Once again everyone is greeted with a genuine energetic smile and warm hug.
We go straight up to the prep room, unpack and set all the trolleys up for the live show. Whilst we prepare the models are trying on outfits and the gorgeous Gemma Whitbread from Que Colour applies makeup. There are four sections and Kristina and Belinda are up first sharing their colour techniques and what they specialise in. The energy is high and they bounce off each other effortlessly. We learn new out of the box sectioning, free hand techniques and the fact that toners have a complete life of their own. The menu for this service is just as long as all the colour services put together, long gone are the days of a toner being squirted over foils at the basin.

Next we have Mia from The Fox and the Hair and Monique from Que Colour continuing on with toners particularly pinks and rose gold. Here Mia introduces us to glitter cocktails and Milkshakes for your hair! A combination of a direct dye, mousse and tons of glitter, it was a clear crowd favourite.
Here I am thinking this day could not possibly get any better when the special guest arrives, it is none other than Natalie Anne. You know all those amazing 30 second upstyles you see on Facebook or Instagram? Well there’s a high probability that they are hers AND they are incredible. I get a selfie with Natalie and talk about her newly launched products, there are 4 products in the range and I love the simplicity of it all. She then gifts everyone with one of her products.
We break for lunch and then the last 2 sections commence, Kristina and Monique present in section 3. Kristina is creating a Pastels and Brights colour inspired from the curves and colours she finds on a fish and changes the colours to suit her model. After the application we go upstairs to rinse and style the models for the Reveal.
Ongoing education is essential in my quest to be able to service my clients to a high standard and now more than ever the industry is changing with so many freehand techniques taking over and toners also having a life of their own. Colour Queens showed me four incredible and unique women from separate hairdressing backgrounds with completely diverse techniques, all still very on trend in their own way. The experience, knowledge and friendships I gained from this day are priceless and I cannot wait to get back into the salon and get even more creative.
